New website for the Bauta Family Initiative On Canadian Seed Security
Here is the new website for the Bauta Family Initiative On Canadian Seed Security – http://www.seedsecurity.ca/en/. This program is delivered by USC Canada (http://www.usc-canada.org/), in partnership with Seeds of Diversity Canada (http://www.seeds.ca/) and through the support of The W. Garfield Weston Foundation (http://www.westonfoundation.org/). It was one of the main topics of the “BC Seeds Gathering” that was attended by CVGSS members Moss Dance, Arzeena Hamir, John Blyth and Alan Goodacre last November.
The website contains encouraging information about what is happening in BC and across Canada. Under the NEWS tab you will find things like this link to a CTV interview with
Bob Wildfong, Executive Director, Seeds of Diversity Canada –
http://canadaam.ctvnews.ca/video?playlistId=1.1370600. There is also this link to an item on NBC (i.e. USA mainstream media) about seed libraries that shows the idea is “out there” – http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/51296978#51296978.
In her email announcing the new website, Heather Pritchard of FarmFolkCityFolk – www.farmfolkcityfolk.ca (the host organization for the BC region) says :
In the BC region we are in the process of upgrading/updating our
BCSeed website so stay tuned for info on our on farm carrot research
project. Also let us know how you are “increasing the quality and quantity of
local seed for the local food we grow”.
