Fertile Ground – Seeds of Assam project

Peggy Carswell of Fertile Ground attended the July 8, 2013 board meeting of CVGSS.  Peggy described a Fertile Ground  project in Assam and encouraged more east-west awareness between people concerned with traditional seed and farming.  One way to help is with internet linking like this:  Click on the website headers below to learn more about Fertile Ground, and how people in Assam are dealing with the same concerns as we are in CVGSS (www.fertile-ground.org and www.seedsofassam.net)

CVGSS will contribute $500 to Fertile Ground’s Seeds of Assam project, specifically in support of people like Mahan Borah (picture below).  He is a young farmer, seed saver and promoter of organic agriculture from Jorhat, Assam.  As Peggy described, he is researching Assam’s traditional seed varieties and documenting local farmers already active in saving local seed varieties.
