Dirk Becker: Be Newly Inspired to Grow More Food Than Ever Before! – Rotary Hall – Saturday, 1 March, 1:45 – 3 pm
Bio: Dirk and Nicole are well known for their urban farming battle to grow food in Lantzville and for creating the successful Bowen Road Farmers’ Market in Nanaimo. They also published Synergy Magazine for 10 years and hosted a radio program – both of which were dedicated to living more consciously. They turned what was essentially a gravel pit into an oasis teeming with plant and animal life. They grow over 16,000 pounds of vegetables and fruit, by hand, utilizing bio-intensive methods, on less than one acre.
An internet search of “Dirk Becker Farming” yields 773,000 results. His passion for creating positive change is infectious and has benefited the community in a number of ways from working to create local provincial parks to inspiring young adults to grow much of their own food. Dirk is a director of Island Roots Co-op (a NEW year round farmers’ market), sits on the panel for GMO-Free BC and is a director of the Farmland Defense League of British Columbia.
