Calling all seed savers!  Now is the time to be planning which seeds you are going to save this season.  Please keep in mind the Seed Bank Wishlist and the CV Seed Bank Crop Record form.  Keeping records is beneficial in any case, but it is essential if you are saving seeds for the Seed Bank.

Please note:  It is advisable to keep your ongoing records separate, eg in a gardening diary, so that they can be legibly transferred onto clean Crop Record Forms after the seeds are harvested.

A few ideas from the Seed Bank Wishlist:

  • Beans – more varieties of dry beans including soybeans
  • Fava Beans – more varieties (we currently have Exhibition Longpod)
  • Flour corn – if it can be grown without crossing with GMO corn
  • Garbanzo beans (chick peas)
  • Grains – Wheat
  • Quinoa
  • Amaranth
  • Barley
  • Buckwheat
  • Flax
  • Triticale
  • Rye
  • Kale – more varieties especially Red varieties
  • Kohlrabi
  • Lentils
  • Potatoes – those that can be grown from seed
  • Pumpkins including oilseed pumpkins
  • Root Crops – Carrots
  • Turnips/Rutabagas
  • Soup peas & Shelling peas
  • Squash – more storage varieties especially open pollinated Butternut
  • Sugar beets
  • Sunflowers – oilseed varieties
  • Tomatoes – paste varieties
