Volunteer growers for the CVGSS 2014 plant sale

plantsale posterIt is time once again to ask for volunteer growers for the CVG&SS plant sale. Please let me know if you are able to participate and also please pass the invite to anyone else you know who might be willing to help us out.  It would be good to let me know the plants you will be growing for the sale, approximately how many and the variety. Please text or email me if you have any questions – 250 702 1627  or elaine.codling@gmail.com

Suggestions from previous sales include:
Annuals, Kale, arugula, peas, zucchini, lettuce, ground cherry, squash, cucumbers, annual flowers , leek, garlic, cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, tomatoes [these are the bests sellers and we could use many more plants and many varieties].
Perennials of all types will sell, berries, flowers, shrubs, trees ( a few figs trees have been donated) Asparagus, Sunchokes,

Herbs are good sellers: Mint, lovage, parsley, chives, cilantro, sage, oregano, rosemary, and more Edible flowers are popular too such as nasturtiums, marigolds, pansy, and others.

Please do not limit yourselves. Grow what you like, grow your favourites !
– Soil and pots are available at Barbara Toombs’ place 4745 Headquarter Rd. There is no need to disturb Barbara or the family just pull up and help yourself to what you need.
– Pots need to be sterilized before use. This is very important since plants from our sale go all over the valley.
To sterilize: Wash the pots, submerge them in a 10% bleach solution for 30 mins, then rinse. Refresh the bleach solution after 2 hours.
– If you need seeds or if you need pots and soil to be delivered please let me know. If you are able to help out with distribution of pots and soil please contact me as well.

Volunteers for the May 24 sale day:
I will also be asking for volunteers to help with the sale.  If you have the time to volunteer, it would be most appreciated.  Volunteer duties:
– Cashier and 4 -6 tally uppers, Packers and runners to assist customers with purchases
– Setup and take down leader and 4-6 crew to erect and dismantle tents, easels, signage and tables Parking director and 2 assistants

Planning and promotion for this sale have gotten a slow start this year. If you can help spread the word it will be greatly appreciated. If you belong to a group or association and could hand out posters, make an announcement about the plant sale and the CVGSS or provide a newsletter article to your group, please let me know. We need customers to buy the plants. The more people aware of the CVGSS society the wider and faster it’s circle of influence will grow.

Thank you for your participation. I look forward to working with you to make this year’s sale a huge success.
