Seedy Saturday 2018

Seedy Saturday 2018 will be held on MARCH 3RD at the Florence Filberg Centre, Courtenay.

The theme this year is “LOCAL SEED = BOUNTIFUL HARVEST”

Our doors will be open from 10.00 till 3.00. Entrance is $5 and free after 2.00pm.

Des Kennedy is an accomplished novelist and satirist as well as a celebrated gardening writer and speaker.  He is the author of nine books, in both fiction and non-fiction. He lives on Denman Island.

At 10.30 he will present  ” Becoming a seed extremist.”

At 12.30  Elodie will present “Getting Started: the basics of seed saving ”
At 1.30 she will present         ” Food Security to Locally Adapted Seed: the critical link. ”

Elodie Roger holds a passion for seeds and seed diversity. Her background revolves around the field of conservation, with experience working overseas on various project including GIS mapping and human-wildlife conflict in the UK and socio-ecological landscape for biodiversity conservation in India. Following her return from India in 2014, she settled on Vancouver Island where she became  a seed grower, working with over 150 varieties of vegetable, herbs and native plants.  Elodie keeps on strengthening her understanding of issues and strategies to alleviate the loss of our food diversity by working alongside local seed growers  and seed initiatives such as the Victoria Seed Library and other international key actors such as Dr. Vandana Shiva.
